Add Multiple Frequencies to a Medication Order
Multi Sig. Orders are Part 1 & Part 2 type of medications, use this feature to taper down orders and with multiple frequencies.
FAQ: How do I add an order that is tapering down, or if I want to add multiple frequencies like a PRN and a schedule in one order?
1. Understand When to Use Multiple Frequencies
-
Use for orders like: 1 tablet daily for 7 days, then 2 tablets daily for the next 7 days.
-
Important: The medication must have the same drug strength across all parts (e.g., all 10 mg tablets).
2. Navigate to Resident's Medication Section
-
Go to the resident's profile and open the Medications section.
-
Click Add Medication.
3. Select the Medication
-
Start typing the medication name (e.g., “lis”) and select it from the dropdown list.
-
Ensure it’s the correct strength (e.g., 10 mg tablet).
4. Enter Part 1 Frequency
-
Set the frequency to “One time daily.”
-
Set dose as “1 tablet.”
-
Choose a start date (e.g., June 16).
-
Set the end date to 7 days later (e.g., June 23).
-
Set the time (e.g., 8:00 AM).
5. Add Part 2 Frequency
-
Click Add Frequency.
-
Set this second frequency to “One time daily.”
-
Set dose as “2 tablets.”
-
Choose a start date one day after Part 1 ends (e.g., June 24).
-
Set the end date 7 days after that (e.g., July 1).
-
Confirm the administration time is the same (e.g., 8:00 AM).
-
Update the dosage reason if needed.
6. Save and Review
-
Click Save.
-
The system will label this as a multi-sig order.
-
You'll see Part 1 and Part 2 listed under the medication.
7. Verify in Med Pass and Med Log
-
In Med Pass, the medication will show up according to the current date and active frequency.
-
In the Med Log, view past and upcoming scheduled administrations based on start and end dates.
8. Notes and Support
-
This also works for taper-down orders, as long as the drug strength stays the same.
-
If this comes through a pharmacy order, the system will auto-generate Part 1 and Part 2 sections.
