Configure schedules for long intervals, such as every 3 months, 6 months, or a year
FAQ: I need to add a medication to give every 6 months; what frequency do I use?
-
Navigate to the eMAR Medication List
- Go to the eMAR medication list.
- Click on "Add Medication."
-
Add a Medication
- Select the medication from the available list.
- Ensure the start date is correct. For example, set it to the beginning of the year if you're starting from January.
-
Set the Frequency
- Under the Frequency field, select "Every X Days" as the option.
- Enter the appropriate number of days between doses:
- For 6 months, enter 182 or 183 days (depending on the leap year).
- For 3 months, use 91 days.
- For 1 year, use 365 or 366 days.
-
Add Instructions
- Clearly document the frequency in the medication's instructions (e.g., "Administer every 6 months").
-
Consider Using PRN as a Backup
- If the exact schedule doesn’t work or you need flexibility, add the medication as a PRN (as-needed).
- Note that PRN medications won’t provide reminders but will allow manual selection when needed.
-
Review and Verify
- After scheduling, go to the MedLog to ensure the medication is correctly set up.
- For example, if the start date is January 1, the next scheduled dose for a 6-month interval will fall on July 1.
-
Administer and Document
- When administering, use the MedLog or MedPass to document the medication and any notes, such as the injection site.
