Adding Vitals to a Medication

FAQ: I need to add a hold order for blood pressure and heart rate when giving medication, how do I do that?

  1. Navigate to the Medication Section in EMAR

    • Go to the EMAR section in Synkwise.
    • Under "Drug Name," select the medication that requires vital tracking.
  2. Enter Medication Details

    • Choose the medication (e.g., Lisinopril).
    • Set the start date, frequency, time, and dose.
    • In the instructions, add any special requirements, such as: "Hold if systolic blood pressure is less than 100."
  3. Add Vital Tracking

    • Scroll down to "Restrictions / Health Monitoring."
    • Click the button to add a vital requirement.
    • Select Blood Pressure and set the parameter (e.g., less than 100).
    • Select Heart Rate if necessary (you can leave parameters blank if only tracking).
  4. Save and Review the Medication Setup

    • Double-check all entries to ensure accuracy.
    • Click Save to apply the changes.
  5. Check Vitals During Med Pass

    • In Med Pass, icons for Blood Pressure and Heart Rate will appear.
    • The "Not Given" button will be active until vitals are checked.
  6. Enter the Required Vitals

    • Input the blood pressure reading.
    • If below the required threshold (e.g., 99), the system will prompt Do Not Give the medication.
    • Input the heart rate reading to complete the vitals check.
  7. Correcting a Mistake in Vitals

    • If an incorrect vital was entered, it can be deleted and updated.
    • Re-enter the correct blood pressure (e.g., 101/65), save it, and proceed with administering the medication.
  8. Final Steps and Assistance

    • Once vitals meet the required range, you can document that the medication was given.
