Audit the Med Log

Auditing the MedLog to ensure all medications are documented accurately, minimizing errors, maximizing productivity and compliance

FAQ: How do I run a medication log audit?

  1. Access the MedLog in the EMAR Section

    • Navigate to the EMAR section in Synkwise.
    • Open the MedLog to begin the audit process.
  2. Look for the Red Plus Button

    • The red plus button indicates a medication that has not been documented as given.
    • If a staff member missed signing off on a medication, it will appear as a missed dose.
  3. Check for Missed Medications

    • Review the MedLog for any unsigned medications.
    • Staff members can go back and document late medications with a note explaining that the medication was given on time but charted late.
  4. Sign on Behalf of Staff (If Necessary)

    • As a workspace admin, you have the ability to sign for a staff member.
    • Keep in mind that this requires acknowledging an agreement confirming that you are signing on their behalf.
  5. Review Past MedLogs for Accuracy

    • Go back to previous days, weeks, or even the last month to ensure all medications were properly documented.
    • Click on the current month and switch to the previous month to review historical data.
  6. Watch for Red Dots on Resident Avatars

    • Red dots on a resident’s avatar indicate missed medications within the last 72 hours.
    • These indicators do not appear for missed medications beyond the 72-hour window, so regular audits are important.
  7. Use the Auditing Feature Under Manage Facility

    • Navigate to "Manage Facility" and select "Inspection" to analyze missed medications.
    • Review your facility’s audit score to identify areas for improvement.
  8. Generate a Finalized Printout of the MedLog

    • Go back to the MedLog and click on "Print."
    • This will generate a printable version of the MedLog, which can be used for licensing inspections or record-keeping.
  9. Regularly Check for Red Plus Buttons and Other Indicators

    • Ensuring all medications are properly documented helps maintain compliance and accuracy.
    • If you need further assistance, click the help button at the bottom right corner of Synkwise.
