Give a Group of Medications Using Batch Processing

How to enable and use the batch processing feature to administer multiple medications at once on the Medpass

FAQ: What is the easiest and best way to give a group of medications at the end of my shift?

  1. Enable Batch Processing (For Admins)

    • This feature must be enabled by a Workspace Admin.

    • Navigate to Administration and select Manage Roles.

    • You must edit a Custom Role, as system roles cannot be changed. Click Update on the custom role you want to modify.

    • Scroll down to the Medication Administrations section.

    • Check the box next to Batch Medications.

    • Click Save and ensure this role is applied to the appropriate staff members.

  2. Use Batch Processing on the Medpass

    • Go to the Medpass.

    • Click the Batch Medications button.

    • A list of medications for the selected time will appear. You can either click the main Given button to mark all medications at once or select Given for each one individually.

    • Click Complete at the bottom of the screen to save.

  3. Handle Medications Requiring Vitals

    • Medications that require a vital sign (e.g., heart rate, blood pressure) cannot be fully administered through the batch processing screen.

    • You must first exit the batch screen, return to the regular Medpass view, and enter the required vital for that specific medication.

    • After entering the vital, you can then click Batch Medications again to administer the rest of the medications for that time.

  4. Document Past-Due Medications

    • You can use batch processing for previous days.

    • On the Medpass, scroll back to the date you need to document.

    • Enter any required vitals for that day first.

    • Click the Batch Medications button, mark the medications as Given, and click Complete.

  5. Verify in the Medlog

    • After using batch processing, it is recommended to navigate to the Medlog to review and confirm that all medications were documented correctly.
