Cusomize the time when a medication is deemed late for each med or system wide

FAQ: Our staff needs a higher buffer time to not show the medication as given late, can I set the time for each medication?

  1. Understand the Default One-Hour Buffer

    • By default, medications are marked late one hour after the scheduled administration time.
  2. Navigate to EMR Settings

    • Go to the "Administration" section and select "Settings."
    • Under "EMR," you can see the system-wide default time for marking medications as late.
  3. Override the Default Time for a Specific Medication

    • Open the resident's EMAR (Electronic Medication Administration Record).
    • Find the specific medication order you want to adjust.
  4. Edit the Administration Timeframe

    • Select the medication and edit the order.
    • Scroll down to the "Administration" section.
    • Adjust the timeframe to specify after how many hours the medication should be marked late (e.g., 3 hours).
  5. Save and Test Changes

    • Save the changes to the medication order.
    • When performing a med pass, observe that the system now reflects the updated timeframe (e.g., it may show yellow instead of red for being late).
  6. Mark the Medication as Given

    • Even if the default one-hour time has passed, the system will not mark the medication as late based on the custom timeframe you set.
  7. Repeat for Other Medications if Necessary

    • Adjust the timeframe for any other medications that need a longer or shorter buffer time.

Additional Notes:

  • This feature is helpful for managing medications with longer administration windows, such as those requiring 3–4 hours between doses.
  • If staff members are encountering frequent late markings, ensure that appropriate timeframes are set for each medication.
