Verify Medication Details:

  • Double-check the time, drug name, instructions, dosage, and purpose of the medication.
  • Ensure you have the correct medication ready for administration.

Indicate Medication Status:

  • Given: Marks the medication as administered, turning the entry green.
  • Not Given: Used when the medication was not administered, requiring a reason.
  • Refused: Indicates the resident refused the medication, also requiring a reason.

Adding Notes:

  • If you wish to add a note, click on the clipboard icon that appears after selecting "Given." This allows you to provide additional information for future reference.

Handling Errors:

  • If you mistakenly mark a medication as "Given" but it should have been "Refused" or "Not Given," you can uncheck "Given" and select the correct status.
  • Remember, marking a medication as "Refused" or "Not Given" requires you to leave a specific comment explaining why.

Special Considerations for Certain Medications

Some medications, such as Warfarin, require extra caution.

  • When administering Warfarin, the system may prompt you to verify the pill color to ensure accuracy.
  • If the selected pill color does not match the universal Coumadin tablet identifier, a warning will appear. Report this discrepancy to your supervisor immediately to prevent any potential errors.

*Final Tips*

Shortcut for Multiple Residents:

  • To administer medications to multiple residents quickly, you can use the shortcut by clicking on the resident’s name at the top of the screen. The system will retain the same history, allowing for efficient medication administration.

Pain Management Protocol:

  • If a medication requires pain management input, such as holding the medication when pain is higher than a certain threshold, ensure you select the correct intensity level before proceeding.
