Placing a Medication on Hold

Stop a medication from being given for a period of time

FAQ: I have a hold order from the doctor to stop for 7 days, I also need to add a reason for the hold.

  1. Locate the Medication in EMAR Medlog

    • Go to the EMAR section and navigate to the "Medlog" tab.
    • Identify the medication or order you want to place on hold (e.g., a lidocaine patch or oxygen order).
  2. View Hold History

    • Click on the "On Hold" option to view the history of held medications, including the reason, duration, start date, and stop date.
  3. Place a Medication on Hold

    • Click the three dots next to the medication.
    • Select the "On Hold" option.
    • Specify a start date (e.g., January 1st).
    • If the end date is unknown, leave it blank to hold the medication indefinitely.
    • Add a reason for the hold and click "Add."
  4. Edit a Hold Order

    • If the hold needs to be removed or adjusted (e.g., based on a doctor's decision), click "On Hold."
    • Edit the hold order to include an end date (e.g., today’s date) to resume the medication starting tomorrow.
  5. Delete a Hold Order

    • To completely remove a hold order, click the three dots again.
    • Select "On Hold" and delete the hold order.
  6. Verify Changes

    • Confirm that the medication is no longer on hold or that the hold history reflects the updated information.
  7. Seek Additional Help if Needed

    • If you need further assistance, click the "Help" button located at the bottom-right corner of the platform.
